1. Purpose
The purpose & scope of this document is for Packing, Preservation and Shipping Procedure.
2. Scope
This document specifies the Packing, Preservation and Shipping requirements for specified pipes.
3. Reference Documents
The Packing, Preservation and Shipping requirements shall according to applicable specifications or documents, the latest revisions are applicable to the unspecified specifications or documents.
4. Responsibilities
4.1 The Quality Inspection Department is responsible for transporting the inspected steel pipe to the packaging workshop.
4.2 Packaging personnel and quality inspection personnel handle the handover, according to the list for the steel pipe quantity, specifications, product information and appearance quality, and make a record.
4.4 Pipes shall be delivered to warehouse after all the packaging activities by packaging staff.
4.5 Packaging personnel and warehouse personnel handle the handover, according to the list for the steel pipe quantity, specifications, product information and appearance quality, and make a record.
Clear marking shall be on all the accepted pipes, which shall be unloaded and stored as per this procedure, and make a record.
4.6 When warehouse keeper receives a despatch advice, Loading shall be performed and hand over the supervise and manage right to the freight forwarding.
4.7 When pipes were transferred to enter port, the carrier and tally clerk shall proceed the handing over inspection on the transportation quantity and quality.
4.8 The freight forwarding feeds back the delivery information to the manufacturer.
5. Packaging
5.1Two types packaging methods bundled packaging and loose packaging shall be selected and performed as per the product specifications. If agreed by the manufacturer and purchaser,other specified packing methods can be selected.
5.2Bundled packaging
1)Bundled packaging method is suitable for small diameter pipes as shown below.
2)Steel pipes of the same bundle should be the steel pipes of the same heat No. and lot No., the same steel grade, thickness and the same specification. Steel pipes of different heat No. and lot No. can’t be bundled up together. Steel pipes less than a bundle shall be bundled up into a small bundle.
3)One end of the bundled pipes shall be aligned.
4)Weight of each bundle of steel pipes should not exceed 3 tons and it can be increased if user agrees however, the maximum weight can’t exceed 5 tons. Each stack shall not be higher than 2 meters.
5)If length of steel pipes is more than or equals to 6 m, at least 7 rounds of strapping tapes shall be made for each bundle, divided into 3 groups to form 3-1-3; if length of steel pipes is less than 6 m and more than 3m, at least 5 rounds of strapping tapes shall be made for each bundle, divided into 3 groups to form 2-1-2; if length of steel pipes is less than or equals to 3 m, at least 3 rounds of strapping tapes shall be made for each bundle, divided into 3 groups to form 1-1-1.
6)Every bundle is with tags. The shipping marks, number of pipes, length, weight, thickness, Heat number, etc.
Pipes internal surface should be free of impurity like Scrap iron and water, etc.
6. Preservation
6.1 Manufacturer shall take suitable measures to prevent damage on the pipe surfaces and ends during packaging, storage, handing and transportation.
6.2 Both ends of the steel pipe shall be protected by plastic caps as shown below if purchase order required.
6.3Pipes except galvanized pipes/coating pipes shall be painted on the outside surface by mill anti rust varnish if purchase order required.
7. Storage
1)All the finished steel pipes are stored in indoor warehouses, and shall not be put at the dusty and humid place.
2)The pipes shall be stack up according to the contracts, and the one end of the pipes should be neatly perpendicular to the green channel.
3)Wooden wedge shall be properly put or other methods shall be used to prevent their rolling.
8. Handling and Transportation
1)Internal transportation is carried out by truck or electric flat car. The pipes shall be shipped to shipping forwarder warehouse by truck.
2)Loading and unloading of the steel pipe shall be carried out by crane, and lifting ability of the crane should satisfy the requirements of safety operation.
3)When load and unload the steel pipe, there should be an operator who was well safe protected and specializing in rope handling. This process shall maintain the pipe body’s balance, to prevent the fall.
4)In order to prevent pipe body sinking, indentation and scratch or pipe orifice damage, nylon tape shall be used when loading and unloading. Each pipe(bundle) shall be fitted with two slings nylon tape for ease of access of lifting equipment.
5)Nylon tape shall not be pulled out with force to prevent strong collision, impact and rolling of the steel pipes or pipe bundles when loading and unloading.
6)Before loading the pipes, remove all the foreign matters on truck so as to avoid damage during transportation.
7) During the loading, unloading and stacking operations, the pipes and/or spools shall be handled in a manner that prevents damages (such as cuts, cracks, bends, buckles, etc.) to the pipe-walls, beveled ends, and to the coating (including internal coatings, if applied).
8)There has crosstie on the truck to lay the steel pipes on. Side support shall be wrapped with rubber or other protective material such as straw mattress so as to avoid damage during transportation.
9)After loading, there are two nylon slings set in each end of the pipe or bundles, that will prevent the surface damage.
10)Nylon rope will be tied up steel pipes to prevent the steel pipe loose package in transit.
11)The brake and tire of the transport vehicle must be in good working condition, the truck box must be equipped with a fence, there should be appropriate metal and iron railings around the goods (in terms of height and strength), the iron railings must be higher than the goods, and it is forbidden to be overloaded.
9. Handling and Shipping in Enter port
1)The freight forwarding should appoint one staff to the port for the inspection of the loading facility and process. At the meantime, the port should also send a person to supervise the whole loading process.
2)The handling and loading in port shall be done all according to this specification.
